Chicago City Council

Alderman Harris has lived in the 8th ward for forty years and has been a member of the 8th Ward Regular Democratic Organization for thirty four years.  She graduated from Bryn Mawr Elementary School, Chicago Vocational High School and Chicago State University.  Alderman Harris is also a life member of Christ Temple Cathedral Church.  She has a daughter, Loren, who is a student at Chicago State University. 


Alderman Harris has a long history of public service in the 8th Ward and Cook County. 

  • Twenty-two years of dedicated public service

  • Chief of Staff under former Alderman Lorraine Dixon ~ 5 years 

  • Liaison to all City of Chicago Departments for Alderman Dixon.  

  • Liaison to Peoples Gas and Commonwealth Edison.

  • Assisted with preparation of the Budget for the City of Chicago. 

  • Coordinated activities with over 300 block clubs within the 8th Ward.

  • Worked with the Southeast Chicago Chamber of Commerce formerly the (87th Street/Stony Island Chamber of Commerce and the 79th Street Business Association). 


8th Ward Streets and Sanitation Superintendent ~ 4 years 

  • Coordinated garbage pickup, street cleaning, and snow removal. 

  • Responsible for the 505 alleys and streets in the 8th Ward.


Secretary to the Cook County Board of Commissioners ~ 3 years

  • Prepared and administered $6 million budget for Cook County Board of Commissioners.      


Alderman, 8th Ward ~ December 13, 2006 to present 

  • Expedites and resolves city service concerns for 8th Ward residents. 

  • Represents the 8th Ward community in City Council. 

  • Promotes economic development, providing more resources for youth and seniors, educational improvements, less crime and a clean community.
